Migraines

One of the first things that we need to acknowledge is the neck when we talk about Migraines, or Headaches. Alot of us forgot about what controls our bodies and the pains that we feel and why. Lets start by talking about what maybe causing your pain in the head. Did you ever question its actually a pain in the neck?

Do you remember back in school when you were learning about the body and one of the questions was "what protects the spinal cord and nerves?", the answer was Spinal Column. Your spinal column is definately a big part in what may be causing your headaches. The neck area called the cervical region of the spinal column have many nerves coming out of it that if misaligned by the vertebrae will put pressure on those nerves that go to the top of your head that create headaches. Misaligned vertebrae will not allow proper function of those nerves to flow correctly also disrupting the flow of blood vessels which is the pounding headache and migraines you feel. With Upper Cervical Chiropractic I focus on those areas to allow proper function to happen and help those nerves to heal.

Neck Pain

The Neck is Your Life Line

The nervous system is the master control network for your body, directing virtually every function and action, from monitoring your life needs, to precisely responding to threats to your health. Each system, from your heart and blood vessels, to your digestive and immune systems, is directed through nerve impulses originating in your brain or spinal cord that travel through its protective bony structure: the spinal column.

The neck region is the most vulnerable region of the spine to injury. Indeed, even death can be brought through significant trauma to the neck. When the trauma is not fatal, the consequences can still be severe, such as when paralysis strikes. Most people will not experience these severe injuries, however sprains of the delicate ligaments with subluxation (misalignment) do commonly occur. Despite the injury being smaller, their location (the neck) makes their impact more profound. Functions throughout the body can be impaired when the nerves in the upper neck are compromised.

Within chiropractic, there are specialists who focus their entire care on the uppermost two vertebrae of the spine. Because every nerve passes through the neck, if irritation or compression is present, virtually any system of the body can be affected. The point being is that a neck disorder will not necessarily just cause neck pain or headache, dizziness, digestive problems, fatigue, high blood pressure and generally reduced quality of life are some of the symptoms patients commonly experience. If you have suffered a severe whiplash, you may have noticed far more than a stiff neck. Indeed, recent research suggests whiplash needs to more thought of as a whole body disorder.

We take these injuries in our office and address them in both a specific and comprehensive manner. Most patients who have suffered a neck trauma will require x-rays to analyze the posture of their spine. X-rays may also need to be taken in motion to test the stability of your ligaments and to determine precise levels of impaired movements. Without this road map, it is difficult to determine how care should be directed and factors that could influence your long-term prognosis, such as degeneration. Our health care team is dedicated to drugless natural methods to restore vitality. We try to work with your body with techniques that don't carry the all too common side effects commonly seen with long-term drug use or surgery.

Pediatric Care

Oh the love of kids! I am asked quite frequently on why I would need to see kids? Babies and kids have spines too and their nervous systems are attached to that spine as well. Lets start by admitting the birth process is a traumatic experience for the little ones. If you are not squatting in the woods and allowing that baby to fall out on its own there has probably been some interference to help the little one into this world.

I have seen babies and kids with a multitude of problems that for the majority stem from what that first bone in your neck is doing. The first bone in the neck is called Atlas, and it is surrounding the brainstem that is the master computer command central to your whole body. If that first bone in the neck (Atlas) is misaligned in any way shape or form it will disrupt the nerve flow and not allow the body to get the correct information from the brain.

Torticollis, Ear Aches, Ear Infections, Headaches, Neck pain, Colic, Asthma, IBS, Seizures and Colitis are a few of the problems that I have seen.

Don't forget that your body is a self-healing organism and when there is interference on the nervous system this organism will present with some symptoms that can be helped with Chiropractic.

Prenatal Care

Just like babies needing corrections to the spine, pregnant mothers need corrections! During pregnancy the body is changing with force. Womens bodies are getting ready to change in such a drastic way when labor hits that the pelvis and especially lower back need to be at its optimal flexibility! Women need to make sure that their pelvis is in alignment so that when labor begins there is not a chance that the baby will stuggle coming into this world. The corrections to the spine will allow for more movement and easier labor on the baby and mom!

Chronic Pain

Chronic Pain and Fibromyalgia

A lot of fibromyalgia sufferers dont know about the important linkage of their disease to spinal trauma. Indeed for many years fibromyalgia was thought to be a part of whiplash injuries of the neck, it occurred so commonly. There are many scientific research papers that show for many patients, whiplash and spinal trauma occurs more frequently in fibromyalgia patients.

Fibromyalgia diagnosis is based on widespread bodily and spinal pain. Spinal pain is a necessary part of the diagnosis. What makes your nerves so responsive and sensitive? In many cases it is nerve irritation at the spinal level. When the spine is injured, the joint is sprained and there is damage to the ligaments and disks. This is called a subluxation. Overtime the muscles become more involved and tight.

For some patients, these problems are so substantial that there becomes sensitivity to pressure where the nerve from the spine feeds the arms and legs. The result is pain all over, and more and more restriction of movement. But lack of movement doesnt help the problem. It generally makes the pain worse.

With Chiropractic care you can make the spine more flexible and able to withstand the stresses you deal with everyday. Multiple scientific studies have shown that chiropractic adjustments improve spinal pain symptoms. Every fibromyalgia patient needs a detailed spinal examination by a Doctor of Chiropractic to identify areas of misalignment (subluxation). When the movement in the nervous system is restored and the joints are moving correctly the strength of the body becomes healthier.
